Which Photonic Product Do You Need?
Photonic systems generally need one or more of four core functions: generating light, detecting light, routing wavelengths or integrating optical transmit and receive functions.
Generate Optical Signals
Choose Laser Chip for custom packaging or Laser Diode for packaged optical-source integration.
Detect Optical Signals
Choose a Photodiode when light needs to be converted into an electrical signal for sensing, communication or measurement.
Route Optical Wavelengths
Choose an AWGR when multiple wavelengths need passive routing between multiple optical ports.
Integrate Optical Tx/Rx
Choose an Optical Sub-Assembly such as BOSA when transmitter and receiver functions need to be integrated into one optical subsystem.

Discuss Your OEM Project →From Components to OEM Integration
Lumi product selection does not end with choosing a single component. Many photonic systems require several parameters to be considered together, including wavelength, laser architecture, package, detector type, fiber interface, thermal control and optical routing.
Typical project discussions may include:
Wavelength & Architecture
DFB, FP, VCSEL and application-specific wavelength requirements.
Package & Fiber
TO-can, butterfly, fiber-coupled, connector and fiber options.
Thermal & Monitoring
TEC, thermistor, monitor photodiode and stability requirements.
Optical Integration
Photodiodes, AWGR routing, BOSA and other subsystem requirements.
Send us your application, target wavelength, required optical function and integration constraints. We can help narrow the selection path before moving into a specific product or package.
Frequently Asked Questions
What photonic products does Lumi supply?
Lumi's current product portfolio includes laser chips, packaged laser diodes, photodiodes, AWGR wavelength routers and optical sub-assemblies. Laser diode options include DFB, FP and VCSEL architectures with TO-can, butterfly and fiber-coupled integration formats.
What is the difference between a laser chip and a laser diode?
A laser chip is the semiconductor optical-emitting element before final package integration. A packaged laser diode combines the laser chip with a mechanical package and may also include thermal control, monitoring, fiber coupling or other system-integration features.
When should I choose a photodiode?
A photodiode is used when an optical signal needs to be detected and converted into an electrical signal. Selection depends on wavelength range, detector material, responsivity, package and system requirements.
What is an AWGR used for?
An Arrayed Waveguide Grating Router is used for passive wavelength routing between multiple optical input and output ports. Lumi currently offers 16×16 and 32×32 AWGR solutions in module and equipment formats.
What is a BOSA module?
BOSA stands for Bidirectional Optical Sub-Assembly. It integrates optical transmit and receive functions into a compact optical assembly and can also include wavelength-management and fiber-interface elements depending on the design.
Can Lumi support custom or OEM photonic requirements?
Project discussions may include wavelength direction, laser architecture, package, fiber coupling, connectors, TEC and thermistor options, monitor photodiodes, optical detection and subsystem integration requirements.
